Gurprinder Singh Sodhi, father of 20-year-old Ishmeet , said at their home in Ludhiana that the event management company, which took his son to the Maldives, informed him at around 2000 hours that the singer had died due to drowning in the swimming pool of the hotel where he was staying.

The second year Bachelor of Commerce student of MNC College, Mumbai, had gone to the pool for frolicking, but fell into its deep end leading to his drowning, agencies reported, quoting a hotel official.

As they walked through the ape exhibit, they passed in front of a large, silverback gorilla. Noticing the wife, the gorilla immediately went crazy.

1975 Jan 1

It
was about five in the morning. Father (I am not bothering with names)
woke up with a start. Many years had passed since he had founded the
orphanage. He had named it ' X-Orphanage ' , a rather funny name. But
looking back, everything about his life seemed funny now. Hearing some
noise outside, Father decided to have a look. A child lay there in
front of the orphanage. It was a girl. Seeing her abandoned like this
in the cold morning, Father felt a sense of anger for the merciless
being who had thrown her away like this. He took her in his arms. He
would raise her like his own child.

17 Years Later

The
girl had now grown up. She was now staying at a hostel. She met a man
and fell in love with him. Soon she got pregnant.But the man
disappeared. She was thrown out of the Hostel. Father came and took her
back to the orphanage. She gave birth to a girl, but the baby was
mysteriously stolen. Unable to bear all this, the Father committed
suicide.

5 years later

Due to some serious health
problems, the girl went to see a Doctor. The doctor having examined
her, said with a sad _expression on his face, "Adrenalo Sytosis, a
serious case of hormone imbalance" . An operation was performed in
which the doctor had to change the sex of the patient. The girl was now
transformed into a man. The man was very depressed because he had lost
his child, his father had committed suicide, his lover had betrayed
him, he had to change sex and so on. He eventually took to drinking.

One
day he saw that a new bar called 'Kaalachakra Bar' had opened in his
locality. He went in. He saw a bearded man to whom he related his sad
tale. he bearded man took pity on him and told him that he had a Time
Machine and that he could use it to change his past. He accepted the
gift from the bearded man. He decided to go to the past (to the year
1992) and started the Time Machine.!!!! !!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

1992

The
man arrived with the Time Machine in the year 1992. There he met a girl
and fell in love with her. The girl got pregnant. The man, unwilling to
marry her, left the town. He went to another city, earned some money
and five years later came back to the city where the girl lived.
Wanting to conceal his identity, he grew a beard. He started a bar
named 'Kaalachakra Bar'. One day a man came to the bar and narrated a
sorrow tale. Out of compassion, he gave the Time Machine to the man.
The man started the Time Machine and went back to the past.

Suddenly
a man wearing a mask came into the bar. He pointed a gun at the bearded
man. He said that he had a Time Machine and forced the bearded man into
it along with himself. Taking the bearded man with him, the masked man
started the Time Machine. When they reached the past, the masked man
suddenly gave the Time Machine to the bearded man and ran away. The
bearded man found himself in front of X-Orphanage. He went inside and
found a woman lying there with her new born baby. It was a girl. Since
the mother lay unconscious and there wasn't anyone else nearby to take
care of the girl, he took the girl and started the Time Machine to go
to the past.

with the girl. Thinking that it was the best place for the child, he
left her in front of X-Orphanage. He joined a college, studied hard and
became a doctor. One day a woman was brought to the hospital. He

Hindu majority district in Pakistan!

It was a surprise to know that a Hindu majority district still exists in Pakistan.
Yoginder Sikand has written that Tharpakar or Thar Parkar district in Pakistan has a Hindu majority though he says that the voice of the people does not reach anywhere because they are mostly Dalits/Backward Communities and the Hindu community representatives in Assemblies are mostly the upper castes like Banias.
I tried to get more information about the district but couldn't find much. If they are not in a majority by now and even if they comprise 30-40% of the district's population, it is an interesting and gladdening news. In fact, substantial population of Hindus survived the partition and remained in Sindh. They work as 'haari' at the farms of landlords. Wikipedia says that Hindu population migrated during the war of 1965 still substantial chunk of population is Hindu. Also, the tribes like Bhil live in the district.

Afridi to skip Test Matches until World Cup

Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has decided to stop playing Test cricket until after next year's World Cup in the West Indies.

"I have decided that it is better if I stop playing Test cricket until the next World Cup and concentrate on giving my best for the team in the one-dayers" Afridi told Reuters on Wednesday.

"After the World Cup I will decide whether I want to resume my Test career. This decision is based on my feeling that it is not possible for me to adjust and subsequently give 100 percent in both forms of the game."

"The amount of cricket being played these days is too hectic for me and I felt playing both forms was affecting my performances. Doing well in the World Cup and helping my team win is my main priority now," Afridi said.

"I have discussed this and informed my captain Inzamam-ul-Haq about this decision and he has been supportive," Afridi said.

Inzamam said he would respect Afridi's decision.

"I would not like to create any pressure on him to do something he does not want to do at this stage," Inzamam said.

NOTABLY : Pakistan will play a minimum of nine Test matches and around 25 one-day internationals before the World Cup starts in March.

Blast in Karachi on eve of Eid e Milad un Nabi

Pakistani troops were on high alert Wednesday for the funeral of Sunni
Tehreek’s chief who was among 57 people killed in the country's worst
suicide bombing in nearly two decades. Police said they were trying to
identify the bearded head of the suspected bomber who struck in Karachi
late on Tuesday, as thousands gathered in a park to celebrate the birth
of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

No one claimed responsibility for the attack. "We have taken all possible
security measures for the funeral and no one will be allowed to take the
law into their own hands. It's a great tragedy and we appeal to the
people to remain calm and peaceful," Salahuddin Haider, spokesman for
the Sindh government said.

In terms of living costs, Oslo remains the most expensive of the 71 cities surveyed, now followed by Copenhagen, Tokyo, Zurich and London. A basket of goods and services assembled in line with western European consumer habits (excluding rents) costs 15.5 per cent more in Oslo than it does in Zurich – over two-thirds more than the global average. If we include rents in the comparison, the differences from city to city are even more pronounced. The most expensive places to live in this respect are London, Oslo and New York. There have been some significant shifts in the top places since the 2003 edition: Copenhagen has gone from sixth to second-most expensive city, while Hong Kong has fallen from second spot and no longer ranks among the world’s most expensive cities. Deadly H5N1 Bird Flu Virus Finally Reaches Pakistan

Islamabad on Tuesday confirmed the first cases of the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu at two poultry farms in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP), after receiving positive test results from the European Union's (EU) Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza in the UK.

“The laboratory has confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus at the two farms but we had already completely sealed the farms and destroyed all the [chicken] stocks there. But there is no need to panic - there are no reports of any bird flu cases detected in other parts of the country,” Muhammad Afzal, a spokesman for the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, said in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

Another suspected outbreak in the southern city of Hyderabad, where 2,000 dead chickens were found on a rubbish tip last week, has not been confirmed. “Samples from some other areas [including Hyderabad] were also sent to Britain, but were negative,” Afzal added.

As many as 25,000 chickens were destroyed in late February at two poultry farms in the Abbotabad and Charsadda districts of NWFP after initial tests pointed to the presence of the mild H5 strain of avian influenza. Subsequently, samples were sent to the UK to determine if it was the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain of the disease.

Last week tests confirmed H5N1 in poultry across the border in Afghanistan, while the virus has also been detected in neighbouring India, Iran and China.

As part of preventive measures, Islamabad has banned the import of poultry products and birds from more than 30 countries where cases of bird flu have been reported. In addition, the hunting of birds has also been banned across the country to prevent the killing of infected migratory birds.

A countrywide public awareness campaign involving newspapers and electronic media is already under way to ease growing fears about avian flu and the use of poultry products.

A good target by India to make Pakistan trumble but Pakistan with the Ist ball ruled the match, and was chasing in good speed or should i say run rate, then bad light situation came in, and as Pakistan was ahead then India with all respects, Pakistan was declared winner by 7 runs as by D/L rules. I read this article in this saturday's dawn and was amazed to know about her, her school and her spirit which is assembled in an article nicely by Irfan Hussain.

OVER the years, many readers have accused me of highlighting only the country’s negative aspects, and not writing more ‘positively’.

Frankly, I have never seen this as being a columnist’s primary role. After all, the government deploys vast resources into burnishing its image, and certainly does not need me to blow its trumpet. But while I seldom have much to say in favour of official policies, I have, from time to time, discussed individual initiatives that I think deserve public recognition because of their impact on ordinary lives. This piece is intended to give credit to one such individual and one such initiative.

Surjani Town is a vast, barren new development on the sprawling outskirts of Karachi along the Super Highway to Hyderabad. Around 30 miles from the city centre is a small, low-cost township called ‘Khuda ki Basti’, the brainchild of the famous development expert Tasneem Siddiqui. In a small, unassuming building here is the Amal-e-Danish, a school earlier called the ‘One Rupee School’.

First established at a nearby location a decade ago, the school now has around 700 children studying in different classes. Even 10 years ago, a rupee per student didn’t go very far in meeting running costs. Now, many beggars refuse to take this tiny amount. But that’s how much Parveen Rao, the driving spirit behind the project, collects from each student per month.

Clearly, to take on such a venture, a person has to be possessed, and Ms Rao is no exception. For years now, she has been making the long commute in her rattle-trap of a car. In the beginning, she had to go personally to the nearby goths or villages to convince parents to send their children to her school. The parents of little girls were hesitant to start with, but over time, she broke down their resistance. One reason for her success has been that she mostly hires her teachers locally.

But it’s a constant struggle: with running costs of around 150,000 rupees per month, she is running around every month to make sure that salaries and utility bills are paid on time. Fortunately for her, a local philanthropist underwrites the ‘One Rupee School’ to the extent of Rs 50,000 per month. He has also paid for the construction of the school building. But Ms Rao usually has to dip into the family earnings and her own small business to meet costs. The reality of this precarious financial arrangement is reflected in the lack of furniture and teaching aids.

So why did she get involved in education in the first place? Ms Rao says that when she was young, her parents prevented her from going to high school. When she was older, she put herself through college and university, writing many articles on literature in the process. Her writings have been collected in the form a book. But when she was struggling to get an education, she vowed to help others in her predicament.

Initially, her school was located in a small rented house in Ayesha Nagar in Surjani Town. But when Khuda-ki-Basti was launched, she was able to convince Mr Tasneem Siddiqui to let her have a plot of land at subsidized rates.

Although a madressah has opened in the neighbourhood, for most children her school is the only chance for an education. As I entered the modest building, I heard the sound of many young boys and girls learning their lessons aloud. I was next struck by the cleanliness of the place.

Entering classrooms with Ms Rao, we were greeted with a chorus of “Good morning, madam!” as the pupils sprang to their feet. The blackboards were covered with drawings of different fruits with their names in English. I privately wondered how many of the fruit these kids had actually seen. In some classrooms, volunteers piped up with poem recitals.

In one nursery class, I noticed a 10-year old boy sitting with children half his age. On enquiring the reason, I was told that as a matter of policy, the school does not refuse admission because a child is not equipped to fit into a class of his or her own age-group. “For most of the children here,” Ms Rao explains. “This is the only school available. So we can’t penalize them if their parents did not enrol them any sooner.”

When the killer earthquake struck last October, Ms Rao flew to Islamabad and travelled to Muzaffarabad to assess the needs of the children there. She now has one school in the latter for 60 pupils, and one in a refugee camp on the outskirts of the capital for 90. I asked her why she had taken on this additional responsibility when she had enough headaches with her Karachi school. She replied simply: “Because the children needed schooling.”

Although she has a headmistress running the ‘One-Rupee School’, she has to do much of the work, from fund-raising to getting question papers photocopied. As there is no telephone at the school, her physical presence there is necessary for much of the week, taking her away from her own work. And the hour-long commute each way in heavy traffic needs all her concentration; her dream is to be able to hire a driver.

In most of the classrooms, the children sit on mats placed on the floor. The books in the bare library are stacked on tables as there are no book racks. Most of the illustrations in the rooms are drawings of cartoon characters done by students. An electricity connection is awaiting funds for a transformer.

Despite these and many other drawbacks, Parveen Rao is upbeat and serenely confident that she will be able to continue running her school. She sees this as a debt to society. For her, the children at her school deserve a chance. And although the facilities and the education are fairly basic, the only option these kids have is to go to the religious seminary that has begun operating in the area.

As we were driving back to town, I made a modest contribution to the school. Cheerfully, she accepted it, saying it would pay for the photocopying.

Pakistan Cricket Board plans to launch TV channel

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is toying with the idea of launching a television channel. The board has hired ex-PTV hand Ather Waqar Azim to carry out its feasibility report on the plan.

According to a report appeared in the Pakistani daily The Nation, the need for the PCB to have its own channel was felt after the state run PTV (Pakistan Television) informed the organisation that it would not be able to telecast domestic cricket as there was no commercial interest in it.

According to the report, PCB's channel will also telecast other sporting events.

Canadian pop singer Bryan Adams is to perform at a fundraising concert for quake victims this month in Karachi, becoming the first Western pop star to play in Pakistan since the start of the "war on terror," organisers have announced.

"We want to show to the world that Pakistan is a friendly country and its people love music and Karachi is no more a troubled city," Iqbal said.

It must have been a gut-wrenching experience to see the seriously injured, the traumatized and the maimed young kids.

The president has astutely offered to soften the LOC to facilitate the families parted for two generations, and to bring about peace in the region. Do you support the President on this issue?

We have Indian team visiting us soon after Christmas. We commonly perceive the cricket ground as a battlefield between the two warring nations. Does that fact put you under more pressure to win than when you play against teams from other countries?
“Thanks to Allah India enemy country. Mashaalalh we lose all other places but not cricket”.

It is a game we play and not fight a war to fly the green flag on Lal Qilla. Surely, playing and watching sports is just for entertainment and different from what happens on the front line, on the negotiation tables and International forums.
“Cricket good sport. I no likes war. Boys is no likes war, we friend in cricket all peoples”.

I found this article on Chowk, it is written after a good observation but it is a time to split Indian team as much we can though Inzamam is not so fluent in answering the questions asked from him in English Language.

One Month Vacations

Finally I am back, after an exam break of 33 days. Exams were great but not so easy to tackle with. I really missed the blogging thing very much, more than you cant understand but time management was so difficult for me everytime that I have to sacrifice the blogging thing even the computer use during exams...
Is this happened to you ever that I dont know its a concidence or a pre-planned that when Pakistan played its first match against England last month that same day we got our very first paper & today was last match as well as my last paper!! It isnt for first time almost every annual year I face this problem, may be i should now start taking intrest in other sport!! hmm... tennis will be the right choice, isnt it? Nice gorgeous beautiful players, like Sania Mirza, Maria Sherapowa,....

Men are busy reading their own news, or they are reading the real efforts taken by our government. International Relief Reply is very good till now somehow they act atleast. But President is asking for more as there is still lack of many things moreover UN's Kofi Annan requested the whole UN members to provide help more n more and also thanked for so far co-operation with us. Thousands of relief goods has been transported toward the affected ones but there lies some faults which will be discused after we resolved this major hit.
Whtat Next?
They are trying to provide the shelter with special tents b'coz a the second major problem that hitted these areas is the worse and coarse weather.

[The day the earth shook]

Last week Pakistan faced the most terrible as on October 8, 2005 a massive earthquake occurred at 8:50:38 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time. It registered 7.6 on the Richter Scale making it a major earthquake. Initially, official Pakistani estimates were that the earthquake has killed over 30,000 people and injured over 42,000.

However, as most of the affected areas are in mountainous regions and have been rendered inaccessible by landslides that have blocked the roads, the death toll is thought to be much higher.

As of filling of the report the death toll is proceeding upwards of 30,000 lives. The most severely affected areas were Balakot, Garhi Habibullah, Rawalkot and Muzaffarabad.

One of the two residential towers in Islamabad ( Margalla Towers in F-10 sector), believed to contain up to 60 apartments each, collapsed in the quake. Pakistani government officials at the site stated the number of people affected by the collapse was in the hundreds, many of whom are feared dead. Efforts by rescue workers are ongoing. Over 52 people are rescued from the collapsed residential " Marghalla Towers ". And on the third day a two year old child was recovered by the Italian rescue team after she had been buried for more then 60 hours under the rubble.

I was tagged by Sir Shirazi on his this post "Seven things", but due to my Uni Blog which is still under construction and manythings more I just missed it , but today I was checking his blog some updates and found dis tagged quiz so here is my answers....

I can do: I can do everything mind it everything, from jumping from building to creap over floor, isnt it Wierd..ahem ahem! Yeh guyz i was just kidding!! I can do many things of which this page isnt enough..

I can't do: Gambling, making false emotions, and finally cant handle the girl hype.

Things that attract me to the opposite sex: Smile, way of talking, stilled pics, and flirting nature.
